ARIA – PERFORMING ART FESTIVAL

This festival is dedicated to the contemporary performing arts, with a central focus on the fusion of influences from the various genres.
After great success with the application process, both in terms of the number of artists who applied and the variety of proposals, the festival aims to act as a kind of glue to reconstruct the bond between people and the exchange of emotions within communities.

The programme presents a wide variety shows in order to satisfy the tastes of a varied audience, which was actually involved in the selection process for the “CHOSEN BY THE ARIA COMMUNITY” section.

The main objectives of this project include changing the direction that our society is currently heading in, appealing to humanity’s ability to aspire to a different future, and the possibility of doing it all together as a community.

The relationship each of us has with the future is always the result of a particular combination of extremely unique factors: beliefs, identity, birthplace, stage of life, etc. However, there is at least one common factor shared by every individual, that is, what Arjun Appadurai calls the ability to “aspire”. The anthropologist argues that aspirations are never simply individual, and consequently, our relationship with what lies ahead is also the result of participation in the collective ability of imagining a common future, a future that contributes to influencing how communities are aligned in terms of values and rights.

In much the same way, this festival aims to create these new spaces in order to create new communities – to dream together.

A line-up that features these values and brings together leading contemporary dance and circus companies, as well as theatrical and multidisciplinary performances.

Art can be found not only in the big cities, but also in small towns, which become the location of new, shared journeys.

This is the beginning of a tragicomic adventure for the two protagonists, as they work together to try to create an everyday routine that only two toys could imagine. Aerial fabric, couples and hand-to-hand trapeze are just some of the techniques in this circus theatre show.

CHOSEN BY THE ARIA COMMUNITY

Radio Radiose – only music from the ‘30s (and ‘40s) is a theatrical radio show but, above all, it is a radio show that only and exclusively broadcasts live! The Radiose accompany their radio listeners as they play lively, syncopated tunes from the swing era. But what happens if the frequency gets unstable and changes unpredictably? A riveting, madcap adventure filled with frequency modulation featuring buzzing, static crackling, radio programmes and phone calls, which drags the audience into a radiophonic rollercoaster of eras and styles.

SANTA MARIA EXTRA MOENIA – 9.15 pm

TRUST

dance

by SPELLBOUND CONTEMPORARY BALLET
choreography and directed by Mauro Astolfi
with Maria Cossu and Giuliana Mele

A short story about two women who do not know how to behave towards each other. A momentary attempt to get along based on the idea of mutual trust. A game pieced together by a variety of characters, but with the subtle need to understand what the other is thinking – how can she be close to you, how can you live side-by-side with her? A childish, mature, adolescent but self-conscious duet, hinting at decisions that must be made quickly… as they move forward, they become friends and eventually discover that they can trust each other.

SANTA MARIA EXTRA MOENIA – 9.45 pm

UNKNOWN WOMAN

dance

by SPELLBOUND CONTEMPORARY BALLET
choreography Mauro Astolfi
with Maria Cossu

A tale that is both serious and fantastical at the same time; a collection of memories and thoughts of what happened. An intimate and personal story. She and I have become accustomed over the past 20 years to telling each other secret things through movements; a disorganised notebook where we read and reread the notes to understand the woman and the artist. Perhaps we only understood each other on a theatre stage. But how can you really understand an artist? Pursuing such understanding is only possible with your eyes and heart, any other way confuses you even more and each time you try, you end up almost back at the start again, as if you were introducing yourself and asking each other your names again for the first time.

SANTA MARIA EXTRA MOENIA – 10.00 pm

PERSONAL MARGÒ

concert theatre

by ONDADURTO TEATRO
with MARGÒ

A concert performance in which Margò, an international artist and performer, recounts a special moment in her life through music and songs.

In a continuous dialogue with the audience, the songs provide moments to create narrative spaces for the artist who will lay herself bare, sharing images and memories, but also dreams and visions.

16 JULY 2023

CHIOSTRO SANTA CHIARA – 7.00 pm

MY HEART IS ON THE TABLE

contemporary circus

by and with PIGRECO COMPANY
with Laura Colonna and Doreen Grossmann

A contemporary circus show with a homely, familiar setting, intended to provoke reflections on how we relate to what we are missing and what we desire. The two performers explore the world of temptation, guilt, indifference, forbidden attraction and our ways of appreciating or taking for granted the abundance that is placed on the metaphorical table of our lives. An intense, poetic and sensitive performance, in which technique – never used for its own sake – is employed as a language to reach the hearts of the audience.

SANTA MARIA EXTRA MOENIA – 9.15 pm

FILI INVISIBILI

contemporary circus

by and with COLLETTIVO 6TU
with Alessandro Campion, Emmanuel Caro, Sara Frediani, Rachele Grassi, Carlos Rodrigo Parra Zavala
with the support of the Cirko Vertigo Foundation, Boarding Pass Plus Project

In this show, one of the leading contemporary circus companies in Italy explores and investigates Italo Calvino’s vision of the world on the centenary of his birth. “Invisible Threads” seeks to create a network of relationships and a tapestry of gazes that meet and then try to avoid one another. The grammar and language of the circus, with an index of corporeal rules that seeks to transport the spectator into different worlds, with invisible threads that create a loom filled with memories where each story is linked to the previous and the next.

SANTA MARIA EXTRA MOENIA – 10.00 pm

IF NOT NOW, NEVER

dance

by and with HUNT COMPAGNIA DANZA CONTEMPORANEA
choreography and direction Loris Petrillo
with Leonardo Carletti, Camilla Perugini, Giorgia Perugini, Elisa Ricagni, Giosy Sampaolo

On the bicentenary of Giacomo Leopardi’s lyrical poem, “The Infinite”, Loris Petrillo has conceived a fitting tribute to the poet and the immense artistic and human legacy he has left us. A tribute based on his insatiable thirst for life, which was impossible to satisfy due to the inherent anguish of his soul. The constant pursuit of pleasure and beauty, which is also symbolised by mankind and the world itself, is shattered in the finiteness of mortal life. The only way out is the imagination, which “The Infinite” extols as the place where we can create an infinite reality that can placate, if only for a short while, our equally infinite desire.
